Parent Involvement at NATE

We are currently enjoying getting to know our new families during our new parent class!  We are reading the book Teaching From the Balance Point by Edward Kreitman.  It may come as a surprise that we require our parents to take a class before beginning lessons, but we have learned that it helps all of us have a more positive experience in lessons.

We rely heavily on parent participation in the lessons: taking notes so that they can facilitate home practice.  We also rely on parents to create an environment in which their children are listening to not only the music they will learn, but good music in general.  We also want parents to become familiar with other unique aspects of the Suzuki Method and Philosophy: graded repertoire, repetition, positive approach, delayed reading, and group lessons.

It has been our honor to work with so many families over the past 14 years.  We often end up working with students and their families for 5, 8, or even 10 years!
